My purpose as an Instructional designer is to use evidence based practices to help enhance each learner’s experience in their online learning journey.
As a trainer and instructional designer, I have designed asynchronous (self-paced) and synchronous (face-to-face) online courses and trainings, using research-based instructional methods. Because I have been tasked with making online courses for adult students who have low literacy skills, low digital literacy skills, or limited English, I have learned that usability should be a priority. I often work creatively and outside the box to make courses engaging in all formats, ranging from weekly zoom conversation classes to 12-hour in-depth, self paced courses.
My goal is to make content approachable and relevant. To achieve this, I strive to use plain language where appropriate, chunk information in manageable sections, and use interactive assessments in each design. When I am not hard at work, I am playing video games, tabletop roleplaying games or hiking on nice days.
